From the ocean of piracy, we draw so many files everyday for various purposes. But after selecting the torrent file it is not easy as downloading a meta-link through any download manager. Hence it requires a torrent client to be satisfied. Every time you use public computers it is not allowed to install clients over there.

VLC for windows 8 soon to be in action

Today the team bringing VLC Player to Windows 8 – via the Windows Store so that it will run on Windows RT devices - updated their financial backers as to their progress. When the VLC group set out to Kickstarter to raise 40,000 quid to build the ‘Metro’ version of their video playing software, it attracted the sum with nearly a week to spare, with over 3,000 folks chipping in to fund the project. The stated goal was simple: take its “existing code, which already works on Windows 8′s ‘desktop mode’, and make it run on WinRT, the ‘Metro’ interface.”

There's both good news and bad. They've managed to cut down 90% of what's "forbidden" in the modern user interface, working closely with Mingw-w64 project and GCC developers. They managed to achieve this by:

• replacing our forbidden calls with newer authorized equivalent calls,
• modifying gcc and Mingw-w64,
• writing new code in a special library of ours,
• writing dummy functions,
• disabling VLC code that would not work on the Metro platform,
• moving VLC to MSVCRT 11.0, moving all the VLC codebase to UNICODE and WideChars to fit the new requirements.
• We did also a lot of minor things to help the integration of libVLC and VLC in this modern platform

It's so close we can almost taste it. The team reports that they're working on the following objectives:

• make VLC work with MSVCRT 11.0 without crashing
• write headers and C/C++ code to access the new fashion of COM APIs in which WinRT is written in

What is Fedora Utils?

Installation

Installing Fedora Utils is as easy as running a single command. To install the latest version of Fedora Utils in your system, open the terminal and run the folllowing command, enter your root password when prompted.

su -c "curl http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/satya164:/fedorautils/Fedora_18/home:satya164:fedorautils.repo -o /etc/yum.repos.d/fedorautils.repo && yum install fedorautils"

The above command will set up the Fedora Utils repository and will install Fedora Utils in your system. Adding the repo to your system ensures that Fedora Utils is always up-to-date and all the new features and bug fixes are delivered to you automatically.

If you don't want the repo, you can remove it from the "Manage repositories" menu in Fedora Utils.

Tips & tricks

What's the best thing about Fedora Utils? If you think it's the GUI, then think again! You can use Fedora Utils in bash scripts to help you install software and tweak the sytsem automatically. See fedorautils --exec list for a list of commands you can use in bash scripts.

Fedora Utils saves the downloaded files. Have to do the same steps on more than one system? You won't need to redownload the files again. Fedora Utils can use previously downloaded files with ease. Combine this with the scripting ability, and configuring multiple systems becomes a lot easier.

You can also extend the functionality of Fedora Utils by plugins. Writing a plugin is easy and fun. Refer this page to have an idea.

We use different platforms of Linux but the objective is almost same to conclude. Hence the various distribution packages i.e. DEB, RPM, PKG, TGZ and more make problem to us finding them. But here we find out a a frontend GUI For alien to convert between various distribution packages named PACKAGE CONVERTER. The application is written in Realbasic and Python and it supports all alien parameter options.

Automatically changing wallpapers on Ubuntu

I was  meant to have a good collection of wallpaper from my friend Satya & tried to put them all scrolling in my Ubuntu desktop, searching for a while for this kind of program which could automate the changing of wallpapers on a Ubuntu Machine. I finally did find the program tonight. It’s called wallch. Open the terminal and type or search it in synaptics.

$sudo apt-get install wallch

Now when the program the installed run it and add your images folder or certain random images you would like to cycle through on desktop. It’s pretty feature rich.

Access any archive file with one command - Ubuntu

Usually to unzip any kind of zipped file we use many kinds of application as well as commands. Hence when extracting archive files using the terminal, there will be archive formats having its own command syntax to extract it. Like, zipped files need to be extracted using the "unzip" command line tool, tar files need the "TAR" command, for 7z files, you need the "p7zip" package to be able to extract them, and so on.

Now no more  difficult to memorize Ubuntu commands, you can simply use a single command to help you extract the various archive formats from the terminal. This universal archive extracting tool is called ATOOL. To install it under Ubuntu 12.04 or older, run the following command:

sudo apt-get install atool

Using the cd command, go the the destination folder containing your archive file (7z, tar.gz, zip, etc.) and run the following command:
atool -x filename.ext

Example:
atool -x google-chrome-stable.tar.gz

If you prefer to extract the archive file in another folder path, use the following command:
atool -X /path/to/folder/ filename.ext

Example:
atool -X /usr/bin/  google-chrome-stable.tar.gz

For more parameters, run this command:
atool --help

ExpressFiles: Superior from any Torrent client

ExpressFiles

There is always a need of Download Manager or any other client that can make download our data from Internet easily. We use two Torrent clients or direct download managers. Difference is that Torrent client downloads the data from various sources & can be resumable at any time while other managers download the data faster by acceleration but not remain resumable for longer period. So bigger files like Movies, Discography, TV Series, Collections in compressed files, Operating System(.iso) file etc. are to be preferably downloaded through Torrent Clients. Torrent clients are more efficient in slower connection.

Besides all of these features available in any Torrent clients still there are many constraints are there and out of which one common problem to users is to find out a good, healthy torrent file; also there are many settings to be improved in the client to get a good speed of downloading which is not known to most of the users.

Here all of the issues are solved by a single torrent client ExpressFiles. The client is easy to install & easy to manage with no need of browser for searching torrent files. A single search will produce different files varying with its size, quality. The graphical interference is very nice & can be used not only in Windows also over a no. of Operating systems.
